Three years on from her passing, Anne Oake’s mission to help those struggling with addiction took an important step Tuesday, as her husband Scott broke ground at the future site of a new facility named in her honour.
“The Bruce Oake recovery centre with its continuum of care has changed the landscape of recovery of men in Manitoba, and the Anne Oake Family centre will do the same for women.”
The new 75’000 square foot facility which will be located on the Victoria Hospital property will offer long-term treatment just like the 50-bed Bruce Oake Recovery Centre, but will also feature a daycare alongside the facility.
“Women many of them are concerned about going to recovery because they are afraid they will lose their kids, can have their kids with them at the Anne Oake family recovery centre so families stay together,” Said Scott Oake.
There is no timetable as of yet as to when the new centre will open its doors, but Oake says they are working to get the facility built as soon as possible
“The phone rings at the Bruce Oake recovery centre hundreds of times a day, and you’d be surprised to know that many of those calls are from women and families wanted to know when the Anne Oake Family Centre will so it has to happen soon.”
